Emmitt Smith was born on May 15, 1969, in Pensacola, Florida. He attended Escambia High School, where he became one of the top high school running backs in the country. He went on to play college football at the University of Florida. In 1990, the Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the first round. He played 13 seasons with the Cowboys and later two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Smith became the NFL’s all-time rushing yards leader. He won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys and was named Super Bowl XXVIII MVP. He retired with records in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and 100-yard rushing games. In 2010, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His early football career began in Pensacola, where he first gained attention as a standout player.
