Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Welcomes New Chief Operating Officer

Justin Olsen, J.D., M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., joined Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as vice president and chief operating officer (COO) this fall. As COO, Olsen oversees the six clinical institutes, ancillary, support services and the ambulatory enterprise, as well as helps set the operational direction for the organization and supports a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

“I’m delighted to join Johns Hopkins All Children’s and was drawn to the organization’s commitment to quality and service, and exciting plans for the future and care transformation,” Olsen said. “I am proud to bring my experiences in children’s health and operations to support our amazing organization and carry our mission and vision forward to the next chapter.”

Olsen has more than two decades of healthcare operations experience, including 12 years of demonstrated success in process improvement, strategic growth and optimizing business operations in pediatric academic medical centers. He previously served as vice president and chief operating officer at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Olsen also served as a management consultant for a national consulting firm, leading a complex service line reorganization that achieved $60 million in recurring savings for a large Midwest health system. In his prior children’s health roles, he was the senior vice president and chief operating officer at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana and the operations executive for Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.

Olsen earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Healthcare Administration at Saint Louis University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Sociology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He is licensed by the State Bars of California and Texas. He served on the Texas Health and Human Services Medicaid Advisory Team and was a member of several community organizations, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Ronald McDonald House.
