Escambia County is pleased to recognize Melanie Harrell, a Library Clerk I in the Community Services Division of the Library Services Department, as the June Employee of the Month. The board recognized Melanie's appointment at the June 2 BCC meeting.

Melanie began her career with Escambia County on June 1, 2021. She works at the customer service desk of the Westside Library and is always ready to lend a helping hand with a smile on her face. She has been recognized for her cordial and professional demeanor. Furthermore, Melanie consistently interacts well with members of other departments to ensure the success of special system-wide library events.

Melanie's duties as a library clerk include assisting patrons with acquiring and updating library cards, answering the phones, sending faxes and doing what she can to ensure patrons find the answers they need. She also provides technical support to both patrons and staff. Melanie maintains the Children's Section of the library, including managing both book displays and seasonal decorations. Additionally, Melanie coordinates and develops activities for programming events, including LEGO Club, Board Game Night, Gardening, Holiday Crafts and more.

"Melanie provides superb service most people only dream of. If she doesn't know the answer herself, then she knows who does," said Library Services Director Todd Humble. "She has extreme patience and provides the utmost care in giving detailed explanations to patrons of all ages. She has continued her outstanding performance while maintaining her positive attitude and dedication to the department. Melanie is extremely deserving of the Employee of the Month. All of us at West Florida Public Libraries celebrate her achievement."

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners commends and congratulates Melanie on her selection as the June 2022 Employee of the Month.
