The University of West Florida Department of Theatre presents “9 to 5:, The Musical” written by Patricia Resnick with music by Dolly Parton. Performances will be held from April 22 through April 24 and April 29 through May 1 with shows at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. All performances will take place in the Mainstage Theatre of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola Campus.
Based on the movie from 1980 and featuring music by Dolly Parton, Patricia Resnick’s screwball comedy “9 to 5: The Musical,” takes a swipe at workplace culture. Office manager Violet is joined by recent divorcée Judy and sexy Texan Doralee to show their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss that they will no longer be taken advantage of by developing a no- holds- barred plan to turn the tables on their boss. The only question is whether they can change the office culture to reach their full potential or ifwill the whole thing will come crashing down when the CEO arrives for an unplanned visit.
Director Sara Schoch and Tina Buran, music director, lead the creative team consisting of students Kylie Giliberto, choreographer; Brittany Barton, set designer; Cole Hudson, costume designer; and theatre department chair Charles Houghton, lighting designer.
