Escambia County issued the following announcement on April 6.
Applications are now open for Escambia County's Infill Affordable Housing project. The project is an initiative aimed at providing access for low-income households to secure housing that is decent, safe and affordable. A total of four houses will be constructed on parcels located at 1021 N Gonzalez St.; 1015 N "G" St.; 1021 "G" St.; and 1100 W Gonzalez St. in Downtown Pensacola. These homes will be available to first-time homebuyers at or below 80% of the area median income. Down payment assistance will be available for buyers for closing costs and principal mortgage reduction. Residents can visit here to obtain the application and additional information.
In order to be eligible for housing through the project, potential homeowners must meet the following criteria:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have lived or worked in Escambia County for at least one year.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
- Must have been employed at my current job for at least six months and/or a part-time job for at least two years
- Must provide a mortgage pre-approval letter from a participating lender stating that the applicant(s) qualifies for at least $140,000.
- Must complete the First-Time Homebuyers Education Class prior to closing
- Selected applicants must contribute a minimum of $500 out of pocket toward fees, down payment, or closing costs
- Minimum 620 credit score
- Must have a total annual household income that does not exceed 80 percent of the area median income for Escambia County, as adjusted for family size.
In addition, Escambia County offers a first-time homebuyer program administered jointly with the City of Pensacola. The State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program provides first-time homebuyers loans of up to $7,500 for income eligible borrowers for down payment and closing cost assistance.
