Escambia County issued the following announcement on March 4.
The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce David Heroux as the selection for the Director of Communications and Public Information for the Office of Community and Media Relations (CMR). The board voted unanimously to promote Heroux as the director during the March 3 BCC meeting.
Heroux is an award-winning commercial writer, producer and director with over 17 years of experience in television and commercial production, along with an extensive background in management. Heroux is a United States Navy veteran, having served as an aircrewman who flew over 100 missions over the Mediterranean. After he transitioned into the civilian world, he began his career in TV production where he successfully managed departments as large as 74 crew members within billion-dollar companies. Heroux oversaw commercial production budgets of over $50,000 a month, regularly exceeding goals while keeping costs down. In order to further his professional growth, he has taken numerous human resources courses in hiring practices, leadership and negotiation, ethics training and more.
In 2016, Heroux joined Escambia County as the Video Production Specialist. In that time, he has earned employee of the month and was presented with the “Shining Star Award” by the county administrator. He has gained the trust of Escambia County citizens over the years and received emails from citizens to the administrator praising him for his work. He has received disaster response certifications and extensive FEMA training, and has been instrumental in assisting with activations at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during hurricanes and other major disasters. Later, in October 2021, Heroux was promoted to the role of Interim Director for Communications and Public Information. Most notably, he has led the CMR team through a county-wide hiring campaign, a large-scale marketing effort to fill vacancies in Escambia County.
“I am honored to be chosen as the CMR Director for Escambia County,” says Heroux. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with the CMR team as the Interim Director for the past five months. I am proud to be working alongside this highly motivated and professional team. I look forward to serving the board, the county administration and most importantly, the citizens of Escambia County.”
When he is not at work, Heroux loves to spend time outdoors and is an avid hiker and runner. He and his wife are involved with their church and enjoy spending time with their two dogs, River and Piper.
