City of Pensacola issued the following announcement on October 12.

Public Invited to Design Workshop on Bruce Beach Revitalization Project

Virtual Public Meeting and In-Person Open House Scheduled

for Oct. 26 and Oct. 27

The City of Pensacola invites the public to a workshop on the Bruce Beach Revitalization Project, which is a catalytic project of the Pensacola Waterfront Framework Plan supporting the city's goal of creating a more connected public waterfront in Pensacola.

The city is offering opportunities for both in-person and virtual participation:

  • Virtual Presentation and Discussion: Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. Free online registration is available through Eventbrite. Registration is not required, but is encouraged for planning purposes.
  • In-Person Open House: Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 4 - 5:30 p.m. at the Community Maritime Park Amphitheater (Behind Blue Wahoos Stadium, 301 W. Main St.). Free online registration is available through Eventbrite. Registration is not required, but is encouraged for planning purposes.

All residents, business owners and stakeholders are encouraged to participate so they can learn about project updates based on shared feedback that has informed the further development of the project. Public input has been a critical part of the design and engineering process for this project. The community's thoughts, opinions and suggestions have been a highly valued contribution to the project's design and engineering.

"Bruce Beach is an integral part of Pensacola's rich and diverse history, and I'm excited to bring it back to life to be enjoyed for generations to come," Mayor Grover Robinson said. "I hope our community will take the time to participate as we continue to work together to further enhance public access to our beautiful waterfront areas."

At the meetings, the engineering and design team will provide an update on how the design has progressed in response to public feedback since the last meeting held in June 2021. Their presentation will include updates on interpretive signage, the incorporation of African American history and heritage into the project, ecological concerns and accessibility.

The Bruce Beach Revitalization Project was initiated as a catalytic project of the Pensacola Waterfront Framework Plan, with the goal of creating a new recreational and educational destination as part of a more connected public realm along the city’s waterfront.

Key project priorities are:

  • Connect people to the water
  • Restore and enhance local ecology
  • Mark and commemorate African American history and heritage at the site
  • Design for educational activities, both indoors and outdoors
  • Create a cultural and educational destination at the Bay’s edge

The project is currently being designed by the planning and engineering firm HDR, with consistency review from SCAPE and with continued public input.
