Among the many politicians who have reacted to the U.S. Capitol siege was Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.). He too, just like the others condemns the actions of the rioters.
To him, the unlawful and violent actions are undesirable and must not prevail in the country.
“America is not a country where political violence is acceptable,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) wrote on Twitter.
Three hours after that Tweet, Gaetz retweeted Donald Trump’s statement asking everyone in the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful.
The turmoil halted the supposedly peaceful count of Electoral College votes. But as Congress prepared to officially certify Joe Biden to be the 2020 presidential election winner, Trump supporters clashed with the authorities, breached barricades, smashed windows, and forcefully marched into the hall of the U.S. Capitol building.
Vice President Mike Pence and other lawmakers had to be escorted away from the siege for their safety.
Protesters were rejecting Joe Biden’s victory as they responded to Trump’s call to fight to overturn the election result and walk down to the Capitol. He earlier addressed his supporters that he is not accepting defeat.
Trump, later on, asked his supporters to go home and respect the authorities.
It was unfortunate that a woman was killed in the violent protest.
