City of Pensacola issued the following announcement on Oct. 28
With road closures possible due to Hurricane Zeta, City of Pensacola residents are reminded that real-time road closures are available online on the city's road closures map
The Pensacola area is expected to see 2-4 feet of storm surge from Hurrican
eta, which is forecast to move into the area as a strong tropical storm tonight, according to National Weather Service of Mobile.
Storm surge may cause roadway flooding, particularly in low-lying areas such as downtown Pensacola. Drivers are urged to stay off the roads until the storm has passed through the area and is no longer a threat.
When approaching standing water in the roadway, remember to Turn Around Don't Drown.
Never drive around the barriers blocking a flooded road. The road may have collapsed under that water. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars, and just 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks. It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters
