Mr. Charles Harrison (1931-2018) was an innovative industrial designer who is responsible for designing the first plastic trash cans with wheels!

In 1956, as a young aspiring industrial designer, he applied for a job with Sears and was turned down, saying he was told that there was an unwritten policy against hiring black people. In 1961, Sears reconsidered and offered him a position on their design team. He later became the company’s first black executive.
